Welcome to the Per Diem Plus - Owner Operators mobile application that automates an IRS-compliant, accountable record of per diem and expenses for self-employed OTR truck drivers.

What do you need to do to create your profile?

  • Open Per Diem Plus
  • Enter Your Driver Profile Information
  • Select Driver Type: Owner Operator or Company Driver
    • Optional: Enter company name if app is being used for company-paid per diem plan
  • Choose Individual or Team Driver
  • Enter Your Tax Home Address (Tip: It's where you park your truck)
  • Save Your Profile

Both Google Android and Apple iOS require users to manually adjust Privacy - Location Services settings.

Android:

  1. Open Android Settings>select Privacy>Permission Manager
  2. Select Location>Per Diem Plus>Set "Allow all the time"

iOS:

  1. Open iOS Settings>Select Privacy>Location Services
  2. Select Per Diem Plus>Set "Always Allow"

ONE-STEP ACTIVATION

Select the SET AUTO-TRIP to start a trip.

  • Tracks your per diem for each day of travel in the USA & Canada.
  • Ends each trip automatically when you return home.
  • Calculates full and ¾ per diem.
FORGET TO SET AUT0-TRIP?

The app will auto-activate 25 air miles from your tax home.

  • Confirm the alert anytime.

Drive through (transit) your tax home halo?

  • The app ends the trip, but posts the airhorn alert upon exiting the tax home halo.
  • Confirm the alert anytime to override ending the trip.
NEVER-LOST FEATURE

REFRESHING TRIP DATA

Cellular connectivity and network traffic volumes occasionally prevent the app from automatically updating per diem data. Select the Help menu then "Syncronize Data with Server" to refresh current trip.

Never-Lost Feature:  Record per diem, expenses and receipts are stored on the secure PDP cloud and instantly accessible on your device for 4 years.

DRIVER VISIBILITY

Select the TRIP tab to view:

  • Per diem by day.
  • Scroll by day or use the JUMP TO DATE option.
  • Displays full and partial per diem events.

Select TRIP SUMMARY to view recorded per diem and expenses for your current truck driving trip.

 
DITCH THE PAPER

Select the EXPENSES tab to:

  • Record travel-related expenses and scan receipts, or
  • View recorded expenses and receipts.
  • Add a NOTE to provide additional expense details.
  • Edit or delete recorded expenses
DRIVER INSIGHT

Select the REPORT tab to:

  • E-mail custom reports with summary of total per diem and expenses by category for the report period.  Includes:
    • Itemized “date and location” each per diem event.
    • Individual expenses recorded by date, type and amount.

Rules For Trucker Per Diem

As of January 1, 2018, only self-employed truck drivers are allowed to claim unreimbursed employee business expenses, like meals per diem, as a tax deduction on their federal income tax return.

Which drivers receive per diem?

  • Only drivers who travel away from home overnight where sleep or rest is required.
  •  A driver who starts and ends a trip at home on the same DOT HOS 14-hour clock cannot receive per diem.
  • A 30-minute DOT HOS break does not fulfill the "sleep or rest" requirement.

What is per diem?

A per day travel expense allowance paid to an employee as an expense reimbursement under an accountable per diem plan.

How do I track a truck driving trip?

  • Select the "Set Auto-Trip" tab
    • Set it during pre-trip
    • Select "Ok" to start your trip
  • The app will begin tracking your trip automatically when you exit the 25-air miles tax home halo and record per diem daily
  • Per diem is posted the next afternoon, which includes 34-hour restarts and unforeseen delays

How do I start a trip if I forgot to "Set Auto-Trip"?

  • The app posts an alert to notifications anytime you exit the tax home halo
  • Slide your finger down from the top of your devices screen to view notifications
  • Tap the alert, "Are you on a truck driving trip?"
  • Tap "Yes" to confirm the alert
  • Note: This alert will also post if you transit the 25 air-mile tax home halo

How much per diem will I receive?

  • $80 / day for each FULL day you are away from home (Start your trip BEFORE noon or return home AFTER noon).
  • $60/ day for each PARTIAL day you are away from home (Start your trip AFTER noon or return home BEFORE noon).

How much per diem will I receive when I travel to Canada?

  • $86/ day for each FULL day you are away from home (Start your trip BEFORE noon or return home AFTER noon).
  • $64.50 / day for each PARTIAL day you are away from home (Start your trip AFTER noon or return home BEFORE noon).

Does a driver have to spend all the per diem?

No.

How do I view my per diem in the app?

  • Select the "Trip" tab to view a daily record of per diem, or
  •  "Trip Summary" to view all per diem for your current trip

How often should I check my per diem?

  • We recommend you verify per diem weekly
  • Select the "HELP Menu" and tap "Synchronize with Server" to refresh per diem data
  • Access the help menu from the upper righthand corner of the app on both Android and iOS devices

How do I receive per diem reports?

Reports generated within the app are sent from Support@perdiemplus.com by default to the primary email address associated with a users profile.

  • View your user profile to identify the primary email account associated with the account
  • Check your junk / spam email folder if you did not receive the report
  • Only the PDF report format includes receipt images
    • Best practice: Send PDF reports by quarter (i.e. Jan 1 - Mar 31) to ensure file size does not exceed your email provider server capacity.
  • Add Support@perdiemplus.com to your contacts

How do I switch my subscription from iOS to Android?

Per Diem Plus can only be loaded on one device per user profile. Follow these steps to switch your profile from iOS to Android.

  1. Delete the PDP app from your iOS device before installing PDP for Android.
  2. Cancel your subscription on iTunes:
    • Launch the Settings app
    • Tap iTunes & App Store
    • Tap on your Apple ID
    • Tap View Apple ID when the pop up window appears
    • Enter your Apple ID password or fingerprint ID when prompted
    • Tap Subscriptions
    • Tap the Subscription you want to cancel > Cancel subscription
  3. Open Google Play on your Android device.
  4. Download and then open the PDP app.
  5. Choose the LOGIN option; enter your user PROFILE name and password.
  6. The app will prompt you to subscribe through Google Play. Confirm the subscription.

All previously saved per diem and expense data will be downloaded to your device.

How do I switch my subscription from Android to iOS?

  6. The app will prompt you to subscribe through iTunes. Confirm the subscription.
  7. All previously saved per diem and expense data will be downloaded to your device.
